FAQ

How does Place Proof know I've been somewhere?

When you take a photo or pick one from your library, Place Proof reads the location and date already embedded in that photo, entirely on your device. There's no manual place-picker and no internet connection involved in awarding a stamp.

Why didn't my photo turn into a stamp?

The photo needs location data attached to it. Screenshots, images without GPS info, or photos taken with Location Services turned off won't have this, so they're not accepted. This is intentional, Place Proof never guesses or asks you to confirm a location manually.

Does Place Proof track my location in the background?

No. Location is only read at the moment you actively capture a photo with the camera (a single GPS fix, not ongoing tracking), or from a photo you specifically choose from your library.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Place Proof has no accounts, no login, and no backend server of any kind.

Does Place Proof use the internet or send my photos anywhere?

No. Every stamp is decided entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and there's no cloud AI involved.

Does Place Proof need access to my whole Photos library?

No. Picking a photo only gives Place Proof that one photo, not ongoing access to your library.

Is Place Proof free?

Yes, for your first 5 stamps. After that, a one-time purchase unlocks unlimited stamps, permanently, no subscription, no recurring charge.

Which countries have stamp designs?

Place Proof has stamp artwork for 195 countries and all 50 U.S. states. A small number of countries aren't supported yet, we're working through the remaining ones.

If I get a new iPhone, will I lose my stamps and photos?

No, as long as you set up your new iPhone using "Transfer Data from iPhone" or "Restore from iCloud Backup" during setup. Your stamps and photos are included automatically, no account or sign-in needed.

What if I delete the app, or set up my phone as new without restoring?

This is the one to know: iOS does not restore a single app's data just by reinstalling it, even with iCloud Backup turned on. That only works as part of restoring your entire device. So if you delete Place Proof and reinstall it on the same phone, your stamps and photos are gone for good, regardless of your backup settings. Only delete the app if you're ready to start fresh, and rely on your backup specifically when moving to a new device or doing a full device restore, not for a simple reinstall.
